The Army
Introduction

Efate's Army has 1000 defense battalions and 150 SDBs. The Regina Subsector Navy has assigned a Colonial Baton and a Colonial Cruron to the system. The Imperial Navy will assign fleet elements and Marines depending on the level of tension in the region. In addition Efate has a sizable mercenary presence ... equivalent to a division.

A couple of months in to 1107 the Imperium assigned significant forces to supress the Ine Givar. This force has as a minimum 1 assault carrier squadron, a Colonial Lift Infantry Corps, an Imperial Infantry Corps, plus atleast another 6 brigade-sized formations (including the 317th Air-Mechanised Brigade).

With the ever-present threat of invasion by the Zhodani Consulate (or even an aggressive Vargr force) Efate's armed forces maintain a high state of defence preparedness. Training and practice wargames are frequent. However, the regular armed forces are not used extensively in counterinsurgency operations against the Ine Givar and rebel militia, this is usually left to the PSG.

Currently an equipment modernisation and unit restructuring program has begun. The Army's backbone of 19 Infantry Divisions and 12 Mountain Divisions is being converted into an equal number of Mechanised Divisions and Armoured Divisions. Todate only 1 Infantry Division (the 21st Division) and 2 Mountain Divisions (the 11th and 12th Divisions) have been converted.

Since 1081 Efate has looked towards General Products LIC for its equipment although this trend has been stopped recently with orders for artillery, missiles and aircraft from Instellarms.

Personal Gear

In general infantry troopers are equiped with Combat Armour (AR=8, 18kg, Cr20,000), but those in the newer Armoured and Mechanised Divisions are equiped with an improved version (AR=10, 10kg, Cr30,000). Non-infantry troopers have access to Combat Environment Suits (AR=6, 2kg, Cr1000). Specialist troopers in Infantry Brigades use Battledress (AR=10, 26kg, Cr200,000).

Gauss rifles are standard, with a mix of LAW missiles and gauss LMGs for squad support. Officers and vehicle crews have gauss pistols. Battledress troops typically use laser rifles, with PGMP-13s and gauss HMGs for support. Anti-tank units carry man-portable ATRLs. Gauss weapons are supplied exclusively fom Delgado LIC ... from their 1100 catalogue.

  • Delgado GR-400G (4mm Gauss Rifle): This high-tech slugthrower has a battlefield sight, gyrostabilisation, and a sling. TL12, 0.7m, 3.0kg, Cr1200, mag=0.4kg, mag=Cr40.

  • Delgado GP-400 (4mm Gauss Pistol): This companion to the gauss rifle is issued as an alternative personal weapon to vehicle crews and as a secondary weapon to officers. TL13, 0.1m, 0.6kg, Cr600, mag=0.2kg, mag=Cr20.

  • Delgado GR-400M (4mm Gauss Light Machinegun): This squad-level support weapon is based on a heavied-up gauss rifle and uses the same ammo. Half the infantry squads have this weapon. It has a 200-round drum magazine with integral batteries and a bipod. TL12, 1m, 5kg, Cr4500, mag=2kg, mag=Cr200.

  • IMSI-577 "Viper" (Anti-tank Rocket Launcher): The Imperial Military Standard Issue TL13 ATRL (aka "Viper") is made under licenese by both Interstellarms and Ling Standard Products. It is a double tubed (over & under) disposable launcher. Both rockets are launched at the same target in one combat round. The first rocket is unguided, the second homes in on the first so that both strike the same spot on the target in short sequence. (Roll once to hit, if point defense knocks out the first missile the second misses automatically.) TL13, 8kl, 7kg, Cr800. (Designed by Ludowick ... of the TML)
